CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Bailey

When the driver pulled up in front of my luxury hotel in the heart of Philadelphia’s Center City, I couldn’t help but beam with pride. I felt fabulous. I had closed a second huge deal that would bring even more business to my company.

A white-gloved hand opened the back door of the town car, moments after it pulled to a complete stop. I latched on to the other hand that was extended to me, and eased out of the back seat as gracefully as possible in my tight, pencil skirt. Red was my power color and it had worked wonders for me.

“Welcome to the Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia, ma’am,” the doorman greeted.

“Thank you,” I said, as I walked through the doors and into the hotel’s crisp air. The lobby’s marble floors and massive columns hinted at the city’s rich history, with just enough modern touches scattered throughout. I took in the plush sofas and contemporary chairs as the concierge approached me with a warm smile.

He was a tall, middle-aged man who looked to be of Middle Eastern descent. He wore a well-tailored business suit, and was clean-cut. “Ms. Jones. Good evening. How was your day?” he asked.

I was more than a little impressed that he had remembered my name.

“Oh, it was great! Thanks for asking.”

“Wonderful. Is there something I can help you with this evening?”

“Yes. I want to know if there’s someplace where I can have colleagues come in to sign some paperwork. I’m not sure if we’ll require food or drinks, but I want them to be comfortable. To my knowledge, we are simply signing a few legal documents.”

“Hmm.” He motioned for me to follow him back to his desk. “Come, let me see what’s available.” He glanced back at me and asked, “Do you prefer to remain on-site? Or—”

“Yes, please, something right here at the hotel. I thought the bar would be too loud, but I don’t want to be inside a large meeting room. Do you have anything in between? I’m expecting about six to eight people, including myself.”

“I have the perfect place,” he said, and started to bang on his keyboard. “Let me just make sure it is available. What time will your guests arrive?”

“They will be here at eight o’clock sharp. I think we should be able to take care of everything within about forty-five minutes, tops.”

I watched as he squinted his hazel-green eyes at the monitor. Suddenly, he stopped, reached into his jacket pocket, and removed a small pair of reading glasses.

“Okay. Let’s see here. We’ve got a small meeting room, which seats twelve. That should be enough space if you need to stretch out a bit.”

“Perfect!” I said.

I waited as he made arrangements for me to have the small meeting room from eight to nine in the evening. Everything was falling perfectly into place and I couldn’t be happier.

“Oh, one other thing, I’d like to arrange for a massage in my room, in about thirty minutes,” I said.

“Let me check the availability. It’s five-fifteen o’clock now.
